Awards

RC25 grants two awards:

The Language & Society Distinguished Career Award is granted every four years during the World Congress of Sociology. It recognizes career excellence in the field of language and society.

The Award for Academic Excellence is granted every two years and is linked Language, Discourse & Society, the journal published by RC25. It promotes scholarship and recognizes academic excellence in the field of language and society published in LD&S.


2023 Awards

Professor Celine-Marie Pascale has been awarded the Distinguished Career Award of RC25

Dr. Judit Kroo, has been awarded the Award for Academic Excellence of RC25 ISA on the basis of her article, “Discourses of Anticipatory Futures Among Contemporary Japanese Younger Adults” published in Language and Society, June 2021. 

Prof. Celine-Marie Pascale is one of the founding members of our RC25 and the LDS journal. She is a leading scholar in the field of language and society.  Her research examines how language and representation are used to create and normalize systemic inequalities.  Pascale’s scholarship on the relationship between systems of signification and social/economic inequalities has been acknowledged with national and international awards for uniquely important contributions to the field. She is also a Professor Emerita of the American University in Washington DC.

Dr. Judit Kroo is an Assistant Professor at the Japanese Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies, School of International Letters and Cultures, Arizona State University.
